Musical Alphabet

This passion project is my contribution to 36 Days of Type, an annual challenge that invites designers of all kinds to create the letters and numbers of the alphabet in any style or medium over 36 consecutive days. I chose to go with a musician theme for the letters portion of the challenge.

Process Sketches

This was my second time doing the challenge, so I decided to limit myself to a five-color palette. As I struggle with decision-making, especially when it comes to color, choosing the palette upfront saved time over the 26 days. Although I expected it to be more difficult, the constraints made things easier. I also decided to stick to capital sans serif letters, which helped make the final alphabet feel more cohesive.

Reflections

Seeing all the images in a grid made me realize how a simple color palette can bring everything together. I learned that parameters can be helpful in design and force you to think of ways to use those restrictions to your advantage. This project also gave me the chance to connect with designers from around the world. We shared feedback, supported each other’s work, and followed along to see what everyone created next. It was a great experience—and one I hope to keep participating in.
